Story Highlight: A look into a day of training for aircrews at Mountain Home Air Force Base
Large-scale training at Mountain Home Air Force Base is underway this week! 'Gunfighter Flag' allows aircraft from across the country to work together to simulate combat across airspace in Oregon, Idaho and Nevada. Media was invited to cover a portion of the event. Media were escorted through the base. We were covered in dust by the end of the shoot due to high winds in the dry desert. We were told the high desert terrain and mountains surrounding the base, made this location applicable to the training scenarios.
Interviewing an Air Traffic Control Senior Watch Advisor about his feelings about the exercise. He said the new equipment they used allowed his team to expand their skills. Adding a personal note, he says this is a job he’s always wanted to do after following in the footsteps of his family.
